Darek Newby is an experienced professional with an extensive background in government service. He served for 26 years in staff positions in the U.S. House of Representatives, including 14 years as a professional staff member for the House Committee on Appropriations. He served as majority staff director (2019-22) and minority staff director (2012-18) for the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security and as minority staff director (2011-12) and professional staff (2009-10) for the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, and Science.

Darek also worked as Senior Director of Government Relations for Homeland Security at a small tech startup focused on the Defense and Homeland Security sectors (2023-24).

He currently works as a consultant on homeland security policy and is an occasional guest lecturer for the Government Affairs Institute on the congressional appropriations process.
